COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY REGULATOR APPOINTED

The Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Burgess as the Community Interest Company Regulator (CREG). She will take up this post on 14 September 2007.

The Regulator's role is as an independent, 'light touch regulator', who encourages the development of the CIC 'brand' and provide guidance and assistance on matters relating to CICs.

Sara Burgess has 23 years experience of working in management roles and has a good background of working in the voluntary sector and communicating at all levels. Sara said :

"I am greatly looking forward to taking on the role of Regulator of Community Interest Companies. The Community Interest Company has proved a popular corporate form - more popular than expected. Much of this success is down to the work of the first Regulator, John Hanlon and the team in the Office of the Regulator. I am very pleased to be joining the team at this time and taking on the challenges as the Community Interest Company brand develops."

The role and remit of the CIC Regulator is explained on the CIC Regulator website www.cicregulator.gov.uk.
