Big Lottery Fund announces good news for CICs
A number of community interest companies have reported encountering problems when applying for funding with the Big Lottery Fund. This is because the governing documents (memorandum and articles of association) presented by the CICs do not meet their criteria.
We have been in negotiation with the Big Lottery Fund regarding this and are pleased to report that there is soon to be a change in emphasis. In the future, the Big Lottery Fund will be more concerned with outcomes and purpose rather than organisational type; thereby removing restrictions currently impacting on community interest companies.
We have been advised that the Big Lottery Fund will soon be revising its guidance and they are confident that CICs will no longer face this issue. Whilst a number of community interest companies have already received funding under the following two programmes it is expected that this change in emphasis will help future eligibility for community interest companies.
"Awards for All" - This funds projects that enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, as well as projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.
"Reaching Communities" - An exciting new England wide programme that will provide funding to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.
